Domestic Violence

Fathers for Equal Rights believes domestic violence is unacceptable, no matter who commits it or against whom. We also believe domestic violence allegations deserve careful, fair review — because false allegations, when they happen, can be devastating to a parent-child relationship and should never be used as a tactic to gain the upper hand in a custody case.

Research on domestic violence is more complicated than the public narrative often suggests: several large academic studies have found that violence within relationships is frequently mutual, and that men are victimized more often than commonly assumed. We share that research because it matters for how courts, and society, respond to abuse allegations — not to minimize abuse, but to make sure every case is judged on its actual facts.
