Solo parenting doesn’t require doing everything — it requires ending the day with roughly the same energy and patience you started with.
- Plan ahead. Prep meals, keep easy snacks on hand, and set up routines instead of improvising every day.
- Keep it balanced. Try to align basic house rules with your co-parent so kids know the expectations are consistent.
- It’s not a competition. You don’t need to do things the way mom does — ask your kids to show you how she does something, and treat it as a chance to connect, not compete.
- Take care of yourself too. A few minutes to recharge, even mid-day, makes you a better parent, not a worse one.
- Accept help. A support network of friends and family isn’t a sign you can’t handle it — it’s what makes solo parenting sustainable.
