  • Never use physical force when a child is out of control.
  • Limit exposure to violence in shows, games, and media.
  • Keep your child well-rested and well-fed — both affect emotional regulation.
  • Encourage putting angry feelings into words instead of actions.
  • Help them build a go-to list of things to do when angry that won’t hurt themselves or others.
  • If you lose your temper, apologize once you’ve calmed down.
