  5. Acknowledge good choices when you see them — cooperation, finishing homework, and so on.
  6. Teach listening as a skill, not just talking.
  7. Use shared activities — games, a show you both like — as natural conversation starters.
  8. Pick your moments: talk when everyone’s rested and not rushed.
  9. As kids get older, consider a regular family meeting where everyone can share and be heard.
